The Customs department of the King Abdulaziz International Airport has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 699 grams of heroin and 65,265 capsules of Captagon into the Kingdom.

The heroin was found in the stomach of a passenger while the Captagon capsules were hidden inside water pumps, Abdullah Al-Falai, director-general of Customs at the airport, was quoted as saying by local media on Saturday.

“During the routine inspection after the arrival of a flight, an official got suspicious about one of the passengers and detained him. A close examination revealed that he had consumed 92 capsules of heroin,” he said.

Al-Falai said that a consignment was described as water pumps. “However, a Customs inspector got suspicious and found a huge quantity of Captagon capsules hidden inside the pumps,” he said, adding that necessary action was taken against the smugglers.
