A Pakistani man convicted of attempted rape must serve his three-year jail term, Dubai's Court of Appeal ruled, The National reported.

The Georgian woman he tried to rape held a brown belt in karate and fought him off by punching him and hitting him with her shoe until he fled.

The woman had been at a friend's birthday party at the Regal Plaza hotel in al-Rifaa when the 22-year-old driver approached her after overhearing her conversation about going to a flower shop, and offered to drive her.

"He offered to give me a lift. He spoke to me in broken Russian," the woman said.

He told her that the shop was only ten minutes away, but then drove for 30 minutes to a deserted area, where he parked the car, punched her in the face, ripped off her shirt, and tried to rape her.

After she managed to fight him off, he drove off with her purse containing her passport, cash, and mobile phone still in the car.

Three days after reporting the incident to police, the man was arrested, thanks to security camera footage.
