Lebanon witnessed yet another instance of femicide Monday after a man reportedly killed his wife in broad daylight in Beirut’s Ras al-Nabeh.
Local media outlet MTV Lebanon reported that Fadi Askar had driven to a main street in the south Beirut area before shooting his wife – identified only as “Nada” – four times using a pump action rifle, killing her instantly.
Eyewitnesses said that Askar had made efforts to cover his face. A video taken at the scene showed a man wearing an all-black face-covering attempting to flee. Footage captured by a surveillance camera showed the shooter trying to make a getaway in the rented van he had driven to the crime scene.
MTV displayed a panning shot of a quiet street lined with apartment blocks. “Nada was living with her daughters in this apartment,” the local station reported. People close to the victim told MTV that long-standing problems had existed between the husband and wife.
The ISF has opened investigations into the killing.
