Sixty-seven separate fires were extinguished in the past 48 hours in Mecca, said Civil Defense director Brig. Gen. Khalaf Al-Matrafi on Monday.
Civil Defense teams were able to put down the fire, which caused scores of injuries. Al-Matrafi said that nearly 190 medical cases were reported that includes Umrah pilgrims.
Al-Matrafi said: “There were emergency cases and first aid medical attention were operated on Umra pilgrims inside the Grand Mosque, and on the vicinities surrounding the Grand Mosque. A majority of the cases were treated at the Civil Defense Center.”
He said, “Cases, which required medical attention, were transferred to city hospitals and medical clinics for additional medical attention.”
Al-Matrafi said his department has carried more than 287 field trips in the city in order to monitor any safety irregularities in housing and accommodation service buildings.
“Civil defense teams were also monitoring levels of air pollution and carbon emissions inside tunnels and places where the pilgrims are gathering,” he added.
“There were a limited number of violations, some of which were corrected or removed immediately.”
