A man and his wife were found guilty of beating his young daughter to death, the state-run National News Agency reported Tuesday. A. Assaf and his wife F. Assaf were found to have “caused the death” of the man’s daughter from his first wife, according to the NNA. The slain girl was identified as Aa. Assaf, born in 2013.

Preliminary investigations and the report filed by forensic doctor Kevork Koumpejian revealed several broken bones and bruises on her body, concluding that she was beaten to death, the report said.

The NNA said that the married couple had also beaten A. Assaf’s two sons, Odai and Mohammad, and that Odai had “passed away” at an earlier time, while Mohammad had survived.

In the decision issued by Mount Lebanon Investigative Judge Ziad Makna, Public Prosecution found the defendants guilty of the crime listed under Article 189/549 from the Punishment Law, which punishes “intentional killing” and can carry a death sentence, a judicial source told The Daily Star.

The couple was also suspected of violating Article 554 of the penal code that punishes assault with at least six months of imprisonment, the source added.

F. Assaf, who is in Lebanon without legal residency, was also found to be violating Article 36 of the law on foreigners, which addresses illegal residence.
