The criminal court in Amman sentenced a 57-year-old man to 9 years and 4 months imprisonment for the sexual abuse of his own daughter. The father used to abuse the daughter (13 years old) while her mother was absent, and he sexually assaulted her 13 times.
The daughter would beg him to stop saying that what he was doing was "Haram", according to sources. However, the father continued the abuse and threatened to hit the victim and tell everyone she was crazy.
The court convicted the father of sexual molestation. The court listed that the victim was born in 1997, and she is the daughter of the convicted who sexually abused her since she was a child.
The court sentence was based on victim's testimony, where she detailed how her father would sexually abuse her while her mom was visiting family and when the victim's brothers were away.
The victim also stated that: "What her father did was against her wishes, he used to threaten her, beat her and call her crazy. The victim used to scream in her father's face telling him that what he is doing is 'Haram', but the father used to say that it is not 'Haram'".
The victim decided to film her father as evidence after he threatened the victim prior to her mother leaving for Umrah in Mecca, and after the victim had rejected a marriage proposal from a yemeni man suggested by the father.
The victim told the court that she informed her mother about what her father was doing to her, but the mother said "You are going to destroy the house, and you are lying". The victim then appealed to her uncle (father's side) who also did not believe her. He told her "not to obey his wishes even if [your father] threatens to beat you or kill you".
The victim told the court that she had to film a video of her father because she was afraid the court would not believe her allegations. The victim's cousin handed in the video recording to the police who then arrested the father.
