Five university students have been released and cleared of all charges after a Jordanian military tribunal found no evidence to convict them, AFP reported.

"The court declared the students innocent and ordered them freed for lack of evidence," a court official told AFP.

The students at Al-Bayt University in northeast Jordan were detained in March after a mob of students accused them of desecrating the Koran and engaging in devil worship. They were subsequently charged with "doctrinal and sectarian incitement".

Incitement carries a penalty of 3 years imprisonment under Jordanian law.
