The incident took place on Sunday.
A newborn baby girl was choked to death by her mother at a hospital in India.
The 32-year-old woman, Reeta Devi, killed her baby as she did not want a third daughter.
The incident took place on Sunday at a west Delhi hospital, Hindustan Times reported.
"Before the delivery, Reeta Devi had told a helper at the hospital that her husband would frequently fight with her over the birth of their other two daughters. Because of that, Devi said she did not want a girl child again," Deputy commissioner of police (west) Vijay Kumar told the newspaper.
No direct involvement of her husband, Asharfi Mahto, was found in the case by investigators.
"Mahto does not appear to know about the murder plan," said the officer.
"For a poor man like me, a son or a daughter does not matter," said Mahto who works as a helper in a private firm.
