The spiritual journey of Hajj turned out to be more of a grueling physical trek for 47-year-old Bosnian Muslim Senad Hadzic who has finally reached his destination in Mecca after a 6000 kilometer walk that took over 10 months to complete.
Every year millions of Muslims make the annual pilgrimage to the Saudi city of Mecca, but - unlike Hadzic - most opt for modern modes of transport to help them on their way.
Unable to afford heavy travel expenses, Hadzic didn't let a little thing like 4000 miles get in his way and, last December he set off from Banovici on foot with just 200 Euros in his pocket.
WIth no meals or accommodation planned for the journey, Hadzic survived on food hand-outs and pitched up for much-needed rests in mosques and on the street.
The intrepid pilgrim crossed the borders of six countries before finally setting foot on Saudi soil. In his quest to the Holy city he might have battled with the elements, conquered mountains, and braved the wilderness, but Hadzic says he was never afraid: "God was with me".
Although the physical trek might be over, Hadzic's spiritual journey is only just beginning. And, after announcing his arrival on Facebook, the devout Muslim took himself straight to the Al Haram Mosque.
So far he has no concrete plans on how to return.
