To ensure the safety of Haj and Umrah pilgrims from infectious diseases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced a vaccination programme.
The announcement follows stipulations set by the Saudi health authorities for issuing Haj and Umrah visas this year.
The Health Ministry has advised pilgrims to receive their vaccinations as early as possible. All pilgrims must have a valid vaccination certification against meningitis 10 days before his/her arrival to the kingdom.
The ministry has also advised pilgrims to take the seasonal influenza vaccine, especially those who suffer from chronic diseases such as heart problems, kidney conditions, respiratory diseases and diabetes. The advice extends to immune compromised patients as well as to those with metabolic diseases.
Dr Mahmoud Fikri, assistant undersecretary for health policies at the ministry, said in a media statement that the MOH will provide vaccinations at its health centres for adults and children. “The medical delegation will also provide brochures and leaflets to explain ways of preventing infectious diseases, types, symptoms, transmission ways, complications and protection,” he said.
He also added that the health authorities in Saudi Arabia prevent pilgrims from bringing along their own food unless it is sealed in containers.
