A 32-year-old Emirati woman gave her father a new lease of life when she donated one of her kidneys to the ailing 65-year-old man, reports Al Khaleej newspaper.

Sarah Gomaa Al-Reasy's father had suffered renal failure some years ago and needed a kidney transplant urgently as there were fears that it could stop functioning completely.

Doctors at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Khalifa Medical City carried out an examination of the man's 10 children. And they found Sarah's kidney to be the most suitable for a transplant. After undergoing the surgery, the man's condition improved and he is hale and hearty now.

Sarah said that she thought of taking her father outside the country for his operation - as it is very "difficult". However, her father insisted on having it done with his family members close to him in Abu Dhabi. And after reading about places that provide world-class and state-of-the-art medical services, he decided to opt for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City.

Sarah said that she was scared, but doctors told her that anyone could live normally with one kidney for as long as it functions well.

After the operation was over, Sarah was elated to see her father's speedy recovery. A beaming father thanked his darling daughter and also the hospital team for giving him a second life.
