Shoes and stones won't break his bones: Ahmed Shafiq attacked at the polling station

Enraged Egyptian voters attacked former Prime Minister and presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq yesterday, while he tried to cast his vote in Egypt's presidential election. The activists chased the presidential contender outside of Fatima Anan polling station, throwing shoes and stones at his car as he left. The Nasr City polling station, where candidate Amr Moussa also voted earlier on Wednesday, had seen a protest waged by relatives of January 25 "martyrs" who lost their lives in the "Camel Battle" and "Cabinet" deadly confrontations. The protesters held up portraits of Alaa Abdel Hadi and Mina Daniel, insisting that the purpose of their demonstration was to remind voters that if it was not for these "martyrs", Egypt would not be voting today. Ahmed Shafiq served as toppled president Hosni Mubarak's last Prime Minister before popular protests and opposition forced him to step down. He was Egypt's Prime Minister when the infamous "Camel Battle" took place. The chants against regime "remnants", Mubarak associates, grew louder with the arrival of Shafiq while his supporters were also present chanting in his favor.
