A couple caught having sex in the back of a Dubai Taxi have been handed three-month jail terms.
The 29-year-old British woman, Rebecca Blake, and a 27-year-old Irishman had denied a charge of having an illegal affair but were found guilty by Dubai Misdemeanours Court this morning and handed the prison terms.
They were also slapped with a Dhs 3,000 fine for drinking alcohol and will be deported after serving their sentences.
A policeman had testified that he caught the couple having sex in the cab. He said Blake was completely naked and sat on the man’s lap for four minutes before he knocked on the window and they stopped.
According to official records, a 29-year-old Pakistani taxi driver picked up the couple, who had been drinking, at 10.30pm one night in May, in Tecom, Dubai and they asked him to take them to Al Barsha.
The cabbie said: “We were driving on Sheikh Zayed Road and I noticed the man was drinking. I told him it is not allowed to have alcohol inside the taxi, but he drank it and threw the glass out of the window.
“The next thing, I looked in the mirror and saw the woman sitting on the man’s thighs. She was naked, moving up and down and making sounds.”
The cab driver claims he spotted a police patrol vehicle by the side of Sheikh Zayed Road so he stopped beside it, and honked his horn to catch the officer’s attention.
He added: “The policeman came over to the car saw the woman was naked. The officer asked me to follow him to the police station and on the way the woman offered me a big amount of money to say that they were kissing not having sex, but I refused and told the truth during the investigation.”
A 22-year-old Emirati policeman claims the taxi stopped next to him by the side of Sheikh Zayed Road, in front of Mall of the Emirates, and he saw the woman was naked, sitting on the man’s lap and moving up and down.
“I walked over to the taxi and they kept having sex for four minutes and then I knocked on the glass so they stopped and got dressed. The male defendant’s trousers were down to his knees. The woman wasn’t wearing any underwear.”
Blake had insisted to prosecutors that the pair had not had sex in the taxi and the duo were merely hugging.
A source close to the case has said that the pair will appeal the sentences.
