A 32-year-old British tourist is being detained the United Arab Emirates after she brushed against a woman who later died of a heart attack.

The British woman had traveled in the same hotel lift as a 60-year-old German citizen 'of Arab origin' and reportedly brushed against her shoulder when leaving.

The 60-year-old collapsed and died in the lift after the British woman left, and the family reported her to police.

The incident took place in a hotel in the Al Tawoun area of Sharjah, a city just north of Dubai.

The dead woman's family is blaming the Brit for the fatal heart attack, and filed a complaint with local police, who subsequently detained her.

"We inspected the CCTV of the hotel which showed that the British woman slightly touching the elderly woman," a police spokesperson told Gulf News.

The British woman, who is said to have been preparing to leave the UAE, has been questioned by police.

She has been released on bail and has been ordered not to leave the country, according to Gulf News.

The newspaper reported that the British woman said the touch was unintentional.
