Appearing on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, English nineties band Right Said Fred personalized one of their most famous songs for one of their biggest fans, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The only problem? The chorus line was: " You're an a**hole".
Oliver joked on his show that al-Assad was "half mass-murderer and half your creepy sophomore-year roommate". He stated that he wanted to repay Assad for the violence occuring in Syria. Oliver claimed that Right Said Fred was one of Assad's favourite bands because their song was one of many allegedly downloaded by Assad from iTunes. As a result, Oliver's team flew Right Said Fred from London to the United States especially to sing the customised version of their smash hit "I'm too sexy" on the TV show. The performance is now being shared rapidly across social media.
Despite the performance, it seems as though Assad still has some fans in the U.S. This includes a Virginian Senator that sent al-Assad a letter earlier this year calling the Syrian president heroic and thanking him for "rescuing" Christians in the Qalamoun region.
Perhaps Assad can re-read the letter while downloading Right Said Fred's latest song to his playlist!
