DUBAL lends support to joint conference on excellence in business

For Dubai Aluminium Company “DUBAL”, the entirely state-owned enterprise whose Jebel Ali operation ranks among the world’s largest single-site primary aluminium smelters, excellence through innovation and absolute quality have been foundational cornerstones for the company’s sustained success since its inception in 1979. Evidence of this lies in the repeated recognition granted to DUBAL, both locally and internationally, for its achievements in the area of continuous improvement, including numerous quality-related awards such as the Dubai Quality Awards’ Company of the Year, Production and Manufacturing in both 1996 and 2000 (Gold Category). Moreover, DUBAL is a founding member of the Dubai Quality Group (“DQG”) and has played a pioneering and leadership role in the quality movement in Dubai for many years.
Reflecting this commitment, DUBAL is a support sponsor of the DQG & American Society for Quality (“ASQ”) Joint Conference entitled “Excellence: The Future of Business”, which takes place at the Dubai World Trade Center from 12 to 14 March 2011. According to the organisers, the DQG & ASQ Joint Conference aims to provide a forum to debate and highlight the future business scenario in the Gulf. Attention will be focused on the growth and investment opportunities in the region, calculated predictions of the economic scenario in 2015, and mechanisms to support businesses as they prepare for the future. The event will be held under the patronage of H H Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum (President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Airline), and the chairmanship of H E Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer (DIFC Governor). The delegate base is expected to include entrepreneurs and investors who have an interest in the region, and those who wish to expand their current businesses; along with senior quality professionals.
Commenting on DUBAL’s involvement, Ibrahim Nassir (Executive Vice President: Human Resources, Organisation Effectiveness & Corporate Services) says that the DQG & ASQ Joint Conference will combine the concepts of excellence with business success — a notion that reflects DUBAL’s corporate perspectives. “As a company, DUBAL whole-heartedly endorses the objectives of the event to help raise the level of professional, economic and communal performances of institutions, corporations and individuals so as to advance business and improve overall standards,” says Mr Nassir. “The active participation of international experts will undoubtedly contribute to further progress and prosperity for businesses in the region.”
He adds that, as a corporate entity, DUBAL is certified to several international standards supporting effective business management, quality and environmental, health and safety performance, including:
ISO 9001: 2008 - Quality Management System
ISO 14001: 2004 - Environmental Management System
ISO IEC 27001: 2005 - Information Security Management System
ISO/TS 16949: 2009 - Automotive production and relevant service part organisation
OHSAS 18001: 2007 - Occupational Safety and Health Administration System
ISO IEC 20000-1: 2005 - Information Services Management
“For DUBAL, the DQG & ASQ Joint Conference offers an important platform for promoting excellence and quality as important foundations for sustainable success at both individual and corporate level,” Mr Nassir concludes. “We are proud to be a support sponsor of the event and look forward to reaping the potential spin-off benefits of regained economic strength in the Gulf within the next few years.”
