Dubai Department of Economic Development organizes focus group on Logistics Cluster to boost competitiveness
The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) organised a focus group discussion of the Logistics Cluster to brainstorm freely and exchange views on the challenges and opportunities in logistics.
The Dubai Logistics Cluster comprises all key stakeholders in the fast-growing sectors including government and private companies, service providers, educational institutions, related and supporting industries, government institutions and industry associations. The Focus Group discussion was aimed at establishing consensus between various stakeholders and in turn strengthening the competitiveness of logistics in Dubai.
“Logistics Cluster is one of the driving forces of Dubai’s economy. The growth of every company operating within the Logistics Cluster is a key priority of DED, given the growing role of logistics in strengthening Dubai’s position as a hub for global trade. To further promote dialogue and concrete action that benefits logistics, we aim to launch the Dubai Logistics Cluster Platform, a permanent network of collaboration on June 1, 2011. DED and its agencies are working with logistics and related companies for further enhancing the overall competitiveness of Dubai,” said His Excellency Mr Sami Al Qamzi, Director General, DED.
The Logistics Cluster in Dubai is playing a central role in the Europe-Asia-Africa trade, while also serving as a regional trade hub. Dubai is one of very few locations in the world that provides strong sea as well as air cargo services with a unique mix of different transport modes and world-class infrastructure.
Dubai has been pursuing open market policies which have in turn helped attract global companies offering related and supporting services. The advantageous location, competitive market rules and regulations and the superior infrastructure of Dubai create unique opportunities for businesses to thrive.
“DED has been leading successful initiatives to position Dubai as a model in business competitiveness and ethical conduct of business. Private sector enterprises have brought enormous knowledge and resources to Dubai, and the city in turn has provided a favourable and friendly environment to develop and deploy their competencies," said Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO, Dubai FDI.
"Logistics, one of the leading economic activities in Dubai, is a focal point of our development initiatives and plays a key role in our efforts to strengthen foreign direct investment to Dubai. It has been instrumental in driving the decision of various organisations to invest in Dubai and set their offices here, driving their expansion across the region,” added Al Gergawi.
The soon-to-launch Dubai Logistics Cluster Platform will serve as a tool to facilitate dialogue and better communication among all stakeholders. Through this, DED will promote and facilitate interaction among firms, educational institutions, knowledge providers and public sector to come up with joint specialized education and training activities, facilitate market development through joint marketing as well as joint policy and action recommendations to strengthen and further develop Dubai’s logistics.
