The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has finalised the initial phase of preparations for the fifth edition of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre (DFYT), a one-of-its-kind initiative held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture, to promote theatre talent in the UAE will be held from October 1 to 10, 2011. 

The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre focuses on promoting Emirati and Arab theatre artists and enthusiasts by providing a dedicated platform to showcase their talent in addition to sharpening their skills through critique sessions led by experts. 

The Festival features several activities including a discussion on youth theatre and a ‘Hosted Play’ segment that showcases youth theatre talent from other countries in the Arab world to bring the best in contemporary Arab theatre to Dubai. The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre also annually honours an Emirati personality, whose pioneering work in theatre and accomplishments serve as inspiration for the youth talent. 

Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre is one of the key cultural initiatives in the UAE aimed at promoting youth talent and enriching the theatre scene, one of the oldest and most popular artforms. We have a proud tradition of theatre, and Dubai Culture is committed to nurturing it and encouraging more youth to explore their passion for theatre through the Festival. In line with the mandate of the Festival, Dubai Culture will focus on developing the skills of the participants through workshops on all aspects of theatre.” 

Dubai Culture is inviting submissions for entry from UAE theatre groups to take part in the fifth edition of the Festival.
