DMA and ADFCA enhance cooperation in public health and safety

The Department of the Municipal Affairs (DMA) and the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) held a workshop at the DMA premises in Abu Dhabi to discuss health and safety issues related to livestock and pets health.

The workshop had discussed different ways and methods to enhance cooperation between both sides concerning public health and safety issues related to livestock and pets including other issues, like licensing and medications and supervision on all related issues to the commercial and household keeping of the pets. The workshop aimed at defining responsibilities for each entity to curry out for insuring that the best practices and procedures are implied in this regard and to protect the health and safety of the residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

According to a preliminary agreement, the municipalities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi will be responsible for different issues like defining the requirements needed for licensing and supervision on establishments dealing with pets and also the municipalities will be responsible for issues related to trading in livestock and granting licenses in this sector and examining the health of livestock and meat products at the slaughter houses. Also the meeting discussed the possibility of establishing a pet’s identification and registration system identifying all pets in the Emirate and their original background including their medical history in case of any diseases or any harm they might do to the public. The system will also allow the concerned parties to define the numbers of pets and their whereabouts in the Emirate.

The workshop between the DMA and ADFCA will help in preventing diseases and enhancing public health and safety standards and attaining social, economic, and environmental objectives.
