Syria’s tourism minister has made some interesting predictions about the upcoming tourist season in Syria, according to AFP.
In recent statements broadcast by SANA state news agency, the tourism minister says he thinks it will be a “prosperous tourist season” for the province Homs because “various activities are planned …during the summer.” He did not mention what these activities might be, AFP reports.
The cheery prediction comes as the Syrian government continues to battle Syrian rebels in a three year long civil war that has killed over 150,000 people and displaced millions.
The historic Old City of Homs was formerly a popular tourists destination, but since the beginning the Syrian conflict, Homs has nearly been reduced to rubble.
