Calligraphy Meets Art at Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara

Enjoy a journey into the history of Arabian arts and culture to discover the ancient form of beautifully written scripts. Dedicated to celebrating the local heritage of the area, Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, located in the renowned Liwa Desert, has announced “Calligraphy Meets Art” on April 8 and April 9, 2011, for the chance to experience the process of transforming every word into a piece of art. 

In association with Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, expert calligrapher and professional artist Khaled Al Saai will host a full day interactive workshop to learn age old methods of creating a masterpiece from traditional Arabic calligraphy on both April 8 and April 9, 2011. Al Saai is an internationally recognised Master of Calligraphy in both modern and traditional categories, and has participated in many international art competitions and exhibitions. 

Beginners to the more experienced artists will enjoy a creative and informative insight into the rich custom of calligraphy in the Arab world that has been an art form in existence for over 1200 years. 

The session will guide participants through the typical tools used including reed or bamboo pens, the varying scripts of calligraphy from the angular Kufic style or the soft cursive styles known as Naskh, Tuluth and Nastiliq and teach the delicate and dynamic stokes used to create the letters and symbols of the alphabet. 

Guests will then have time to put pen to paper and design their own unique piece of art to illuminate learning’s from the course showcasing the different trends and directions from conventional and classical to a pure abstract contemporary style. It’s a real experimentation of the art of giving form to letters in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner 

Over the weekend Sharjah Calligraphy Museum will also be presenting an exclusive two day exhibition at Qasr A Sarab in Al Liwan Lounge for all visitors to the hotel to admire a variety of creative calligraphy art works as they have evolved over the centuries. There will be a stunning range on display from striking but classical Arabic styles native to this region to some interesting and modern canvases from English, French and even Chinese calligraphers.
