The Yemeni government will launch the construction of several water reservoirs and dams in the governorate of Aden on May 22. The 74 million Yemeni rial ($424,000) project will channel water resources to wells in surrounding areas and protect the region from flooding, reported SABA.
According to the Manager of the Irrigation Department at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Aden, the storing capacity of the new water reservoirs is expected to reach 308.2 cubic meters.
The government is also awaiting bids from private companies, interested in undertaking works, as part of the second phase of the Marib Dam reconstruction project, reported Yemen Times. The dam will provide irrigation and hydroelectricity for a region adjacent to the Yemeni desert region, known as the Empty Quarter. — (menareport.com)
