The Yemeni Minister of Communication, Abdul-Malek Al-Ali, recently launched an Internet liberalizing project in the country, reported Al-Bayan. Internet service in Yemen has been under the monopoly of the Yemeni Telecommunication General Corporation for the past five years. The Yemeni Internet Gateway project aims to provide Internet and information services to more than 30,000 users. Other ISP companies will be able to set up operations in the Country.
There are currently 7,200 Internet subscribers and 35,000 Internet users in Yemen. This figure is extremely low compared to the country’s 20 million population. — (menareport.com)
