Every year millions of pounds of food is wasted after coming in contact with fire control chemicals like foam, powder and halons making it either inedible, Haram or both. Large quantities of rice, corn, maize and other foodstuffs are stored and shipped in containers that are often susceptible to the danger of fire.

A British company has come with a unique solution to this problem by making the world's first edible and Halal fire extinguisher and retardent. The Halal fire retardent developed by the London based Glomet Chemicals, promises to protect all foods with an edible and Halal fire retarding and extinguishing foam. The foam can also be sprayed at the food's packing stage making it non-flammable.

The extinguishing retardant and foam can be supplied in powder form, which dissolves easily in water and can be sprayed on to the stored food; alternatively it can be filled into current foam, water or powder fire extinguishers.

The product is non-toxic and no adverse effects were observed in rats exposed to six hours a day for thirteen weeks to the concentrations of the halon at 50,000 ppm. The product further claims to extinguish all fuels in fires including oil, petrol, flammable fuels, paint, wood, paper, cardboard and fabrics. — (menareport.com)
