In a bid to draw on the talents of the female labor force, the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry has proposed the establishment of women-only production factories, reported Arab News.
Creating a place for women in the Saudi workforce, the factories would manufacture clothing, perfumes and other feminine products; it was proposed at the council's third forum last week. The council also called for the establishment of a national committee for businesswomen.
Saudi women are estimated to hold a total of 90 billion Saudi riyals ($) in bank deposits. The Kingdom's conservative society requires women to hire a male agent when registering a business.
According to the World Bank, giving women in the Middle East equal opportunities to contribute to economic life would significantly enhance the growth prospects and economic productivity of countries in the region. Analysis reveals that if the female labor force participation rate increased, household earnings could rise by as much as twenty-five percent. — (menareport.com)
