Wilbur Smith Associates (WSA), an international consulting firm providing planning, engineering, design, construction and inspection services to transportation projects worldwide, has become a Gold Sponsor of Gulf Traffic 2002, the Middle East's vertical conference and exhibition (Confex) being held in Dubai next October.

The agreement was sealed at WSA's Dubai regional headquarters. WSA is designing Dubai Municipality's Intelligent Transport System (ITS) program and will be the implementation manager of this multi million dollar project. It has also completed the feasibility study of Dubai's elevated rail project, construction of which will begin next year.

“There are a lot of opportunities in the Gulf due to its diverse infrastructure needs, on-going development and invested capital,” said Glenn Havinoviski, WSA vice president for Transportation Technology and Operations. “The region's road and transportation sector is expanding faster than anywhere else in the world with an abundance of roadway network and public transit projects.”

An international coalition of road transportation organizations including the International Road Federation, European Union Road Federation and the ITS associations of Europe, Australia and India, is also backing the event, to be staged at Dubai's Crowne Plaza Hotel, from 26-29 October 2002.

WSA has completed more than 100 Middle East projects, including transportation and infrastructure improvements—multi-modal transport planning, national and multi-national system studies, urban transport and traffic systems improvements and preliminary and final design and construction supervision of roadways reconstruction and rehabilitation. — (menareport.com)
