Samsung Electronics on Saturday unveiled its Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch for the first time in the Middle East at the 25th anniversary edition of Gitex Shopper in Dubai.

Eager to try on the Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch before it hits the market, visitors came to the stand in droves.

Based on last year's results, Samsung expects around 150,000 consumers to visit the stand this year.

"Gitex Shopper is a good platform to showcase the watch," Hayssam Yassine, head of IM division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, told Khaleej Times.

The watch was introduced at the technology show IFA in Berlin, Germany, last month. It is available in the US market since Friday but it will take at least a month to reach the UAE.

"It should be available within one month here. We don't know the exact date. We are going to have two versions of the watch - Classic and Sport," Yassine added.

The Gear S2 is Samsung's response to wearables released by its rivals this year. Samsung has opted to offer both a sporty (Gear S2) and premium version (Gear S2 Classic).

At the Samsung stand, consumers tried on both versions of the wearable device.

Designed to appeal to two consumer preferences, the Gear S2 Classic is made for users who prefer a more timeless watch design in a black finish and a matching leather band, while the Gear S2 is ideal for those who prefer a minimalist and modern design.

Samsung Gulf returned to the Gitex Shopper for the seventh consecutive year. The tech giant will have its flagship products on display, including the Samsung Galaxy Note5 and newly launched SUHD TV, in addition to the Galaxy Gear S2.

When asked if Note5 will be the top-selling device at the show, Yassine said it is already doing very well. Other Samsung smarpthones are also expected to perform well in addition to mid-range phones, he added.

Talking about the overall sales during 2015, he said it's expected to be in the double digits in the UAE.
