Washington Group International as been awarded a two-year contract with three one-year options to provide management of hospital equipment operations and maintenance for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at the newly completed International Medical Center in Cairo, Egypt.
The contract commenced in early April 2003 and is valued at approximately $30 million, if all options are exercised. Washington Group recently completed a contract with the Corps of Engineers for equipment logistics services for the hospital. The company also has a contract with the Corps of Engineers to provide construction, repairs, and related support functions at various Egyptian government facilities and installations.
In addition, during the past decade Washington Group has been heavily involved in water-resources projects such as pipelines, and treatment and sewage plants in Egypt under contracts with the Egyptian government and the United States Agency for International Development.
