Washington Group International has received a $110 million task order from the United States Army Corps of Engineers to support ongoing efforts to repair electrical infrastructure in Iraq.
The award is in support of a Corps of Engineers' mission to respond to requirements of the Coalition Provisional Authority, headquartered in Baghdad.
The award is part of an existing indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded to Washington Group on April 1, 2003, to provide design, engineering, and construction services to the Transatlantic Programs Center of the Corps of Engineers throughout Central Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East.
Similar 12-month contracts were awarded to two other American firms to allow the three companies to compete where practical for specific assignments to support the Corps in 25 countries from the Horn of Africa through Central Asia, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
The original contracts were awarded for a maximum value of $100 million for each company during the one-year performance period. The Corps has notified the Department of Army of its intent to increase the ceiling for each contract from $100 million to $500 million. The performance period of one year remains unchanged.
Washington Group's efforts under the task order will focus on northern Iraq, where the company will install two 80-megawatt electrical generators, rehabilitate three existing generators, and reconstruct a series of 400-kilovolt electrical transmission lines.
The $110 million task order is one of three tasks Washington Group has been assigned under the Corps' IDIQ contract. The three tasks comprise $135 million of the $500 million possible under the IDIQ ceiling.
