Volvo car sales in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) grew by 40 percent in 2001, compared with sales in the year 2000, Regional Director in the Arabian Gulf Region Graham Michael told a recently held press conference. Michael predicted that Volvo would sell 400-500 cars in the UAE in 2002, out of the total 440,000 cars expected to be sold worldwide next year.
Michael estimated that Volvo would sell 60 of the new Limousine S80 in the Arabian Gulf states during the year 2002. The price of the new model, expected to be one of the more popular in the region, stands at 350,000 dirhams (over $95,000).
The regional manager estimated Volvo to sell a total of 1,500 cars in the region in 2002 compared with 1,200 in 2001 and 1,000 in 2000. The Volvo Automobile Company intends to invest eight billion dollars in developing its vehicles over the next five years, Michael disclosed. — (menareport.com)
