Virginia Transformer Corporation (VTC) has completed its first of two transformer shipments to Iraq, as part of the reconstruction effort. The transformers will be used to set up a power generation station.
A project of this size, which requires custom design and materials ordering, would typically take 10-12 weeks to complete. Because VTC's business development manager was on the ground in Kuwait, they were able to better anticipate the project's demands and meet the time-table.
A total of six 25MVA, 11.5kV to 6.6kV step-down transformers were ordered from US-based VTC. Each transformer weighs more than 40 tons. Due to the accelerated need of the product on site, VTC air-freighted the transformers on October 7, 2003 from Dulles International Airport by an Antonov AN-124 cargo craft.
VTC custom designs and manufactures liquid-filled transformers ranging from 300KVA to 300MVA, 230 kV class and dry-type transformers. The company offers load tap changing transformers, drive isolation and rectifier-duty transformers, distribution control packages and other associated electrical equipment. Established in 1971, VTC has design and manufacturing facilities in the US, Mexico and India. — (menareport.com)
