Venezuela to break ground for embassy in Qatar

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will arrive on Monday in Qatar after a four-day visit to Saudi Arabia and will meet with the Qatari amir on Tuesday to break ground for a new embassy, a Qatari official said, reported the Kuwait Times. 

 

"A joint declaration will be signed between our president and the Qatari amir to start work on a new Venezuelan embassy in Doha," a diplomat said, reported KT. 

 

The new embassy will give Caracas a direct diplomatic representation in Qatar, rather than covering affairs from the Venezuelan embassy in Kuwait. 

 

Kuwait Times said that according to goverment officials, The Qatari government has given Caracas a plot of land for its embassy and Venezuela will reciprocate in kind, the diplomat said.  

 

Also, an economic, trade and technical co-operation draft agreement was signed by The Director of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Trade, Ali Hassan al-Khalaf, on behalf of Qatar while the Venezuelan Ambassador to Qatar, E Fernandeze, signed for Venezuela, reported Gulf Time .  

 

Ali Hassan al-Khalaf said the agreement came after two days of discussions which covered diverse aspects drawn up to boost co-operation in economic and technical domains, said the Kuwait news agency QNA.  

 

Chavez is accompanied by Oil Minister Alvaro Silva. The trip is seen as a further blossoming of friendship between an OPEC members, whose coordinated production cuts eliminated market deviations of excess supply on world markets and helped to stabilized the oil they initialled a draft prices. Chavez will return to Caracas from Qatar on Wednesday.
