Jordan's state-run Central Electricity Generating Company on Sunday awarded Al Samra power plant project to a consortium comprising the US Black and Veatch Company and the Turkish GAMA Company at a cost of around $170 million.
According to the company's Director General Abdul Fattah Nsour, six international companies have submitted proposals during the second half of 2003 to construct the new plant, four of which qualified including the winning US-Turkish consortium.
The government will cover 30 per cent of the project's cost while the Arab Fund and the Kuwaiti Fund will meet the remaining cost of the project to run via gas to be exported from Egypt in 2006, he added, according to Petra news agency. In the summer of 2005, the construction of the plant will be completed while in Sept. 2006, the plant will be completed as a combined cycle, Nsour indicated. (menareport.com)
