The United States said Friday, September 14, it had tightened security around its Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is aimed at keeping the country running in case of disrupted supply.
"The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) has been placed on an increased security status," said a Department of Energy spokesman.
All reserve operations were being reviewed by senior SPR managers and Department of Energy headquarters as part of the new regime, the spokesman said. The reserve currently holds 543.7 million barrels of oil.
"No decisions have been made concerning a draw down," the Department of Energy spokesman added. SPR reserves are held in government and private sector facilities around the country. ― (AFP, Washington)
