Modem manufacturer US Robotics recently announced that it is in talks with several service providers in the Middle East to provide regional users with its broadband solutions. The company is also preparing to appoint valued added resellers in all countries of the Middle East and North Africa to offer and support ISDN and DSL.

Several of the company’s Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and digital subscriber line (DSL) connectivity products are currently under testing by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecommunication companies, and should be available in the markets soon, targeting small to medium businesses and homes.

As the use of Internet applications increases, ISDN and DSL technologies will become a requirement for entry level and mid market users, like they are for corporate and government organizations, according to a company press release. US Robotics predicts that broadband adoption rates will fly when the right solutions are made available to this segment, including its ISDN and DSL solutions.

“So far, we have not seen the explosion in broadband that one might expect in this region,” commented US Robotics’ Regional Sales Manager for the Levant, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean Mahmoud Samy. “That is mainly because not all products are available yet that meet the budget of the largest market segment in this region: the small to medium businesses.”

Home users, in turn are showing more interest in broadband, which also makes them a likely market for these new technologies and the services that will go with them. “Home users will be able to download large files or even movies at connections reaching up to eight Mbps,” Samy added.

US Robotics is a privately held company that manufactures modems and engineers Internet access solutions. Headquartered in the Chicago area, the company holds a marketing presence in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Canada and Asia-Pacific Rim. — (menareport.com)
