The United States’ President George W. Bush recently approved the extension of American sanctions on Libya, imposed following the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.
Bush accused the Libyan government of not meeting its full obligations in accepting responsibility for the actions of its officials in the attack and paying due compensations, as outlined in the UN Security Council resolutions.
Libya responded by denouncing the US President’s decision. Libyan official Hassuna Al-Shawush told AFP that he was hoping that the United States would withdraw the sanctions and work toward the normalization of relations with the North African state. — (menareport.com)
