Qatar's United Development Co. has named Royal Bank of Scotland as financial advisor for Doha's aluminium smelter project.

In another announcement, Clifford Chance has been retained as legal advisor. The capital costs of the project, including power facilities, are about $2.5 billion.

"The appointments are an important step in our strategy that targets approaching the financial markets in the fourth quarter of 2004," said David Kjos, project director at UDC.

"The Royal Bank of Scotland and Clifford Chance bring excellent credentials and capabilities in primary aluminium, the Gulf region and Qatar itself, and we are pleased to be working with them on this important strategic project". (menareport.com)
