ALBAWABA - The unemployment rate among Saudis decreased in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 but saw an increase when compared to the second quarter of the current year.
According to data released on Thursday, December 28, by the General Authority for Statistics, the unemployment rate among Saudis reached 8.6% at the end of the third quarter of 2023, compared to 8.3% in the second quarter and 9.9% in the third quarter of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among non-Saudis remained at 1.5% in the three months ending in September, the same as the second quarter.
The overall unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia reached 5.1% in the third quarter of this year, a higher level than the 4.9% recorded in the second quarter but lower than 5.8% in the same period of 2022. The labor force participation rate reached 60.9%, slightly higher by about 0.1% compared to the second quarter.
The participation rate of Saudi women in the workforce increased by 0.6%, reaching 35.9%.
