The Security Council extended the UN's Iraq oil-for-food program for 180 days on Thursday in a resolution that opened the way to a major reform of Iraqi sanctions at that end of that period. The resolution was adopted unanimously after Tunisia dropped a proposed amendment to release Iraqi commercial aircraft grounded abroad under a comprehensive embargo imposed on Iraq after it invaded Kuwait in August 1990. — (AFP, United Nations)
