The [UAE] government has issued a warning to all illegal residents who are not planning on using the two-month amnesty period that they will face sanctions after the amnesty period ends on February 4.
Those found illegally staying in the country after that date will face legal action and the ensuing fines for overstaying as stipulated by the law, the Ministry of Interior strictly warned, adding that there will be no extension to the amnesty period. Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, Director-General of Naturalisation at the Naturalisation Affairs, Residency and Exits at the Ministry of Interior who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Law Violators Follow Up Committee, said: “The ministry deals humanely with the illegal immigrants who apply for departure benefiting from the amnesty and facilitates the procedures for leaving the country voluntarily.”
He stressed that there were abundant facilities and resou rces set up to aid amnesty-seekers, which had been set up across the country.
The announcement of the amnesty and waiver of fines had met with a positive response from the violators, who had flocked to the amnesty centres to finalise the procedures for leaving the country, he said.
He called on those who lagged behind not to wait until last day of the amnesty.
Brigadier Rashidi made the remarks while inspecting the work progress and the procedures for finalising the transactions of the residency law offenders at the centre set up within the premises of Emirates Identity Authority in Musafah neighbourhod in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
