The Danish FLSmidth company has signed a US$221.5 million contract with Emirates Cement Company (EMCC) to supply a complete cement plant with an annual capacity of 3 million tons of cement. The plant is to be built in the Fujairah province of the United Arab Emirates.
The plant is expected to come on stream by the end of 2007 and will be built in cooperation with EMCC's owner, Orascom Construction Industries (OCI), an Egyptian-based international building contractor with whom FLSmidth has already successfully undertaken similar projects in Algeria and Libya.
FLSmidth is to supply all the machines and auxiliary equipment for the 7,500 tons cement clinker per day plant, and several FLSmidth companies and divisions are participating in the project as subcontractors. FLSmidth's scope of supply comprises a complete ILC 3-support kiln with preheater and SF Cross-Bar cooler, two UMS cement mills, raw material stores, silos, electrostatic precipitators and a complete process control system.
The contract also includes Pfister dosing equipment and two Ventomatic packing lines. In addition, the contract comprises civil design and training of the plant staff. To be supplied is also FLSmidth's largest ever raw grinding unit, an FRM 64 vertical mill with a capacity of 6000 kW, or some 20 per cent more than the largest vertical mills hitherto supplied by FLSmidth. The vertical mill will grind 540 tonnes of raw materials per hour.
For the raw mill, FLSmidth subsidiary MAAG Gear is likewise to supply a 6000 kW vertical mill gear unit and for the cement mills two 6,300 kW lateral gear drives. The gear units are among the most advanced in the world and testament to MAAG Gear's cutting-edge technology.
