The year 2000 proved a successful one for the cargo ports of the United Arab Emirates. According to Xinhua News Agency, more than two million standard containers passed through the ports of Dubai between January and September of this year, while the expectations for the year total tree million.

The port of Khorfakkan expects to reach 1.1 million containers, an amount that reflects a 12 percent growth. The Emirate of Fujairah anticipates 560,000 containers to pass through its port.

Between January and October of 2000, the Mina Zayed port of Abu Dhabi handled almost 280,000 containers, with prospects reaching 330,000 by the end of this year.

As it seems, the tight competition facing the UAE ports has not affected their performance. Furthermore, the numbers for the future seem quite promising. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
