As part of its efforts to streamline the functions of its various departments, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Offsets Group (UOG) will be undertaking a major upgrade of its office systems.
The project, Al-Bosala, which will be implemented by Emirates Computers (EC), include the installation of an advanced software solution designed for better record management, document management and collaboration systems, thus paving the way for a semi-paperless environment.
Emirates Computers provides the Livelink solution from Open Text Corporation, which is a collaboration and knowledge management software. Livelink was also implemented to provide Web connectivity that supports collaborative efforts across continents and diverse computing environments.
In addition, Emirates Computers solution provides the company with Kofax's Ascent Capture, a batch-oriented capture application designed to cost effectively process up to 100,000 documents and forms per day and Captaris's Rightfax, which manages all the faxing requirements of the company.
The solution was built using OpenText Livelink, Microsoft Database, Dell Server in addition to Bell & Howell Scanners thus establishing an environment that will provide a knowledge management set-up enabling systematic and transparent management access by utilizing various devices including local PCs, notebooks and even wireless devices. EC ensures that the solution provides accurate reference numbers, an automatic document management system and simple retrieval system.
The UAE Offsets Group was founded by the Abu Dhabi government in 1992, tasked with leveraging a significant portion of the cost of overseas defense procurements into investments in the economic development of the UAE. Each year since, the UOG has created numerous commercial ventures in partnership with the country's defense equipment supplies, their partners, and the local private sector, with among them several of the UAE's largest publicity quoted companies. — (menareport.com)
