ALBAWABA – Bayanat, AI-powered predictive geospatial intelligence, and Al Yah, a satellite communications company, announced launching the first UAE space satellites to monitor the earth on Saturday.

First UAE space satellite launched

Emirates News Agency (WAM) published a statement by the two companies stating that the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite was launched into low earth orbit (LEO) in partnership with ICEYE, a European microsatellite manufacturer company.

The satellite was launched aboard SpaceX’s Transporter 11 joint mission from California, USA. Its connection was verified and its operations were successfully established.

The new satellite provides high-resolution monitoring solutions and uses an active sensor system that provides high-resolution images, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM). Additionally, SAR satellites can capture images at all times of the day, regardless of weather conditions.

SAR satellites are remarkable since they cover larger geographic areas and provide high-resolution photos, according to Bayanat and Al Yah companies.

It is worth noting that the UAE established its Earth Observation Space Program in 2023 with the goal of developing national satellite remote sensing and earth observation capabilities for the country. This was achieved by building a SAR satellite constellation in low earth orbit (LEO).

The launched satellites will continuously monitor the Middle East, enabling Bayant and Yahsat to deliver high-resolution images and accurate insights.
