The United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently has more than 945,000 internet users in total, placing the country in the top 20 most internet-wired countries in the world. With over 263,000 dial-up subscribers and over 920,000 users, dial-up is the most popular service offered by Emirates Internet and Multimedia (EIM), the ISP business unit of Etisalat.
The company now announced that new customers wishing to subscribe to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Internet dial-up service will be offered free registration for one month between August 10 and September 11 2002.
By waiving the 100 Emirati dirhams ($27) registration charge, EIM aims to increase the country's lead of the highest number of Internet users in the region. “We are making huge progress in Internet adoption in the country and we feel that the dial-up offer will help us further our achievements,” commented Maroua Naim, EIM general manager.
Dial-up Internet access allows customers to get online with the minimum of effort and expense. Connection to the Internet is made through a standard telephone line, computer and V.90 modem. With speeds of 56kbps, the dial-up package is the most basic of access methods and is often seen as the first step onto the Internet for home users and small businesses.
Launched in March 2000, EIM is the Internet service provider arm of Etisalat. EIM’s products include BusinessOne and Al-Shamil, the high speed ADSL Internet connections, online registrations, Pre-paid, ‘dial ‘n' surf' and Albahhar portal. — (menareport.com)
