Driving schools in Abu Dhabi are about to go out of business after a coalition of business people and government officials created a giant driving school.

The Abu Dhabi government owns 30 percent of the 100 million dirham, ($US27 million) school. Other shareholders include insurance companies in Abu Dhabi who hold 24 percent of the company and driving schools have 16 percent.

Fearing the competition, small driving schools are considering charging student less for driving lessons. Students are charged $US13 per hour for a driving lessons.

Still, others say that a cut in price will not be enough. The new driving school, which is backed by the government, will cut through the bureaucracy of obtaining a license, something that is more important to students than the cost of a driving lesson. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
