Evidently concerned by European reports about the spread of Mad Cow Disease, the UAE ministry of agriculture and fisheries has banned the imports of cattle fodder made from animal protein.

Quoted by Gulf News,Abdullah Sultan Abdullah, the head of the ministry’s vet quarantine section, said that the embargoed goods include cattle-based dry processed food that was manufactured from animal protein imported from non-Islamic countries, or any country which does not follow the Islamic Sharia law..

Currently, he said, all dry processed cattle-based foods already available in the country have either been manufactured locally or were bought from companies that comply fully with international health standards.

The ministry always tests all imported foodstuffs, if any doubt arises from lab tests the products are returned to the countries from whence they came. Abdullah added that regular checks on farm animals indicate that there are no contaminated cattle or poultry in the country. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
