The United Arab Emirate (UAE)’s Ministry of Agriculture has banned the import of poultry products from Germany followed by reports that the meat was found to be contaminated with Nitroven Carcinogen, reported Khaleej Times.
The ban came soon after Saudi Arabia launched a similar embargo. The ban restricts the import of all German poultry except ‘one day old chicken’, provided they are raised on feed available locally in the UAE. This is the only type of poultry that is completely free from all diseases.
The UAE imports approximately 30,000 tons of meat a year. Early in 2001, the country banned beef imports from the European Union (EU), Eastern European and Scandinavian countries also due to the spread of the mad cow disease. — (menareport.com)
