The UAE will reportedly help the GCC develop a process by which the two will exchange data on the region's labor market. The agreement follows meetings held in Bahrain by the GCC Council of Labor Ministers, which assigned the UAE the task of preparing a technical memorandum on how best to implement the project.

The UAE will provide the Council with preliminary guidelines for a comparative study on the legislation systems of the member countries, including the most up-to-date regulations and systems so that unified project can be established.

In addition, the Council will work alongside the International Labor Organization to acquire an estimated $100,000 needed to create the unified system, according to the Khaleej Times. GCC states will also create a manual on career classifications as part of the joint project.

Dr. Talib Al Refa'ey, Regional Manager of the Arab Labor Organization, told reporters that the organization would assist the GCC states to develop employment specific policies, develop its human resources and update policies of technical and career training to meet the needs of the GCC abor market.

The UAE Minister of Labor signed a protocol of cooperation with his GCC counterparts to approve the joint plan of activities for 2006-2007. The plan covers operation and labor market information, occupational safety, occupational health, large and small businesses, labor regulations as well as workers' rights.

A study on women's empowerment in the Gulf will also be undertaken as part of the development of a strong national work-force in the GCC region.
