The UAE and Switzerland have announced an agreement to exempt passport holders from having to obtain short-stay visas.

Under the deal, UAE citizens will be able to visit Switzerland, and Swiss passport holders the UAE, for a short stay without having to obtain a visa.

The scheme is part of an agreement to match entry terms offered by the UAE to European nationals within the Schengen area.

Switzerland was previously on a list of countries where passport holders would obtain a multiple entry 90-day visit visa valid for six months when entering the UAE.

The same terms are offered to European passport holders.

The UAE has added more nationalities to its visa-on-arrival list this year including Russian nationals and Indians with US visas.
